An introduction to descriptive and inferential statistics as applied to psychological research. Topics include measures of central tendency and variability, probability, hypothesis testing, correlation, regression, and analysis of variance. Emphasis is placed on practical application using SPSS for data analysis and interpretation.
This course examines the psychological and sociocultural foundations of body image and eating behavior. Key theoretical models such as the Tripartite Influence Model, Objectification Theory, and contemporary sociocultural frameworks are reviewed in depth. The course emphasizes cross-cultural psychology, exploring how cultural contexts shape body ideals, appearance pressures, and eating practices across diverse populations. Students will integrate theory with empirical findings to understand mechanisms underlying body dissatisfaction, disordered eating, and resilience, with implications for research, intervention, and global mental health.
